The 2013 season was extremely challenging for Poland's speed climbing champion. Edyta began it in March with a very good result in the WC edition in Chongqing, China, where she repeated her personal best of 8,90 seconds and took the 5th place. At the end of April, during training sessions with the French competitors, Edyta tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. On 29 April she underwent the ACL reconstruction surgery, then three months' rehabilitation programme, at the same time missing both the edition of the WC in Baku, Azerbaijan, and European Championship in Chamonix, France.
In a very short time, she managed to return to the form which allowed her to compete again. In August the champion came back to competitions with her femur and tibia drilled during the operation and her injured knee being protected by an orthiosis. The first prestigious competition after the injury were The World Games 2013 in Cali, Columbia, where she took the 12th place. In the following editions of the WC she takes: 11th place in Arco, 20th place in Perm, 10th place in Mokpo, 13th place in Haiyang and 9th place in Wujiang.
Despite the fact that Edyta Ropek missed one edition of the World Cup 2013, she takes the 10th place in the final classification and at the same time for the 12th time in a row she is in the first ten of the world's best speed climbers.
"This season was very challenging and difficult for me: the knee surgery and stabilizing it in the first month caused a sudden fall of the form that I had been working on since November 2012. I did not give up and struggled for the comeback to the competitions this season. Theoretically it was impossible, however, I did it and I am really proud of it."- comments Edyta Ropek, adding - "Many friendly and supportive people contributed greatly to my comeback and I would like to express my gratitude for their help and support. I want to thank my sponsors especially Azoty Group & Elzat company, TOP30 & Entre Prises companies, Five Ten, The City Council of Tarnów, Polish Mountaineering Association" - thanks the competitor.
Edyta Ropek doesn't slow down and preparations for the next season are going to start just this month:
"This year is going to be a bit different from the previous ones as I am not going to have a month's break from training sessions. The break has been shortened to one week only. I must regain strength in my right leg which was impossible in between the competitions. The period from the surgery till the end of the WC editions was the time of coming back to rivalry and dexterity. The stage of building top form for the upcoming year is going to start just now. I start my first training sessions at the very end of this week, with which I am very pleased." - Edyta Ropek describes her plans.
The winners of the World Cup 2013 were Russians: Alina Gaidamakina and Stanislav Kokorin.
